Fireworks in Essa Township

RE: FIREWORKS IN ESSA TOWNSHIP
The Township of Essa permits residential grade fireworks (family fireworks) to be discharged on designated days only; those being on Victoria Day and Canada Day, and one day preceding those days, from dusk until 10:00pm.
As a reminder to persons that will be discharging fireworks, please remember that fireworks are not to be discharged within 8 metres of the following: a building, accessory building or structure, tree, fence, tent, trailer, recreational or motor vehicle. Additionally, fireworks are not permitted to be discharged on or towards municipally owned properties, public places including highways, streets, lanes, parks, fields, playgrounds or school grounds.
As Essa Township is home to Base Borden, its military personnel, veterans, elderly citizens, citizens who experience symptoms of PTSD, in addition to pet owners, we respectfully request that if you choose to have a firework display, please do so in a manner that is considerate to your neighbours and all residents of Essa.

How do I file complaint about the discharge of fireworks?
To file a complaint, please complete and submit the online complaint form “Report an Issue” which is available by visiting our website at https://www.essatownship.on.ca/living-in-essa/report-an-issue/. You will be required to provide the following information:
- Your full name
- phone number and e-mail address
- address where fireworks are being discharged
- date and time fireworks were discharged
- date/time stamped pictures and/or videos
If your complaint is urgent or if there is risk of harm, please call the OPP Non-emergency line at 1-888-310-1122. If the matter is able to wait for Municipal By-law Enforcement please continue with Essa’s complaint procedure.
Essa has Municipal Law Enforcement Officers available 7 days a week to address complaints received by Essa residents.
All information provided to the Township will remain confidential and every effort will be made for you to remain anonymous. In the event that any By-law infraction proceeds to Court, the Township will provide our file to a Provincial Prosecutor which will include your name and contact information. You may be required to testify.
