Don’t forget your 2026 dog tag!

Dog licensing helps ensure lost pets can be quickly reunited with their owners and helps avoid unnecessary pound fees.

Dog tags are available online, in person, or by mail.

After Hours Canine Control

  • After-Hours Canine Control services operate during evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
  • Please Contact:Ontario Animal Control at 705-229-9171

Please note: This service is for canines only. Calls related to cats or wildlife will not be responded to through this service.

Street Sweeping Schedule - 2026

Street sweeping began on April 9th, 2026. We request that no on-street parking takes place until all street sweeping is completed.

Anticipated schedule:

  • Thursday, April 9th, 2026- Village of Thornton, Baxter and surrounding areas
  • Monday, April 13th, 2026- Angus starting on Centre Street and continuing until all municipal urban areas have been completed

Township bylaws prohibit the placement of dirt and other debris onto the roadway. This can create hazardous conditions for drivers.

Inspect hoses for cracks, check for leaks using soapy water, and always BBQ outdoors - never on balconies or indoors.

Open-Air Fire Reminders

Look into the Township of Essa Open Air Burn By-Law 2025-92 regulations before burning. Keep fires small, supervised, and have a water source ready.

  • Foursomes: $600
  • Single players: $160

Registration includes an 18-hole round with cart, plus lunch & snacks, plated dinner, silent auction, and on-course competitions & prizes. Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

With summer approaching, residents are reminded to stay informed about Township by-laws, including those related to property standards such as untidy lots.

If you observe a possible violation, you may submit a report using our online Reporting Tool.

Please note that the Township of Essa does not investigate anonymous complaints.

Public Meeting

A Statutory Public Meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday April 15th, 2026 at 6pm at the Township Administrative Centre, 5786 County Road 21, Utopia.
The purpose of the Public Meeting is to review the 2nd Draft of the New Official Plan. To-date the following documents have been prepared and are posted on the Township website:
  • 1st Draft of the New Official Plan;
  • Two draft discussion papers; 
  • A technical memorandum;
  • A visioning session;
  • Three public engagement surveys; and
  • Background issues and options report.
