Fireworks

The Township of Essa permits residential grade fireworks (family fireworks) to be discharged on designated days.

As Essa Township is home to Base Borden, its military personnel, veterans, elderly citizens, citizens who experience symptoms of PTSD, in addition to pet owners, we respectfully request that if you choose to have a firework display, please do so in a manner that is considerate to your neighbours and all residents of Essa.

Below are some frequently asked questions, however if you wish to discharge family fireworks, please familiarize yourself with the Fireworks By-law to ensure you are not in contravention of any rules or regulations.

FAQs

Family fireworks can be discharged between dusk and 10:00 p.m. on the following designated days:

  • Victoria Day;
  • Canada Day
  • One (1) calendar day immediately prior to the designated days listed in (a) and (b).

Family fireworks can be discharged on your own property, but not within 8 metres of any building, tent, trailer, shelter or motor vehicle.

Family fireworks are not permitted to be discharged on municipally owned property, including parks, sidewalks, streets, fields, playgrounds etc.

A Fireworks Permit is not required to be obtained for the discharge of family fireworks on designated days, in accordance with the Fireworks By-law 2020-59, as amended.

  • Your full name
  • address
  • phone number 
  • address where fireworks are being discharged
  • date and time fireworks were discharged
  • date/time stamped pictures and/or videos of fireworks being discharged
