Essa Township Responds to Resident Concerns Regarding The Simcoe County Shelter Program
Essa Township was made aware of recent concerns circulating in the community regarding individuals from Barrie’s encampments being relocated to motel(s) within our Township. Township Council and staff would like to assure residents that Essa was not informed in advance, nor made aware of such information or arrangements.
Today, the Township of Essa was informed that no individuals from the recent Barrie encampments have been relocated or placed within Essa Township.
The Township is working closely with the County of Simcoe, which is the lead service provider for shelter housing and homelessness supports across the region.
The Township is seeking further clarification from the County on the scope and impact of the County-wide shelter program and how it relates to the recent information and concerns.
Essa Township will continue with transparent updates as information is received from the County of Simcoe.
Township council and staff remain committed to advocating on behalf of our community and ensuring resident concerns are heard as we work collaboratively with our regional partners.
