Media Release - Groundbreaking Ceremony Marks Start of New Angus Joint Facility (Station 2)

Essa Township, ON - April 24, 2026 - Essa Township Council, joined by MPP Brian Saunderson, CAO Michael Mikael, Fire Chief Burgin, Deputy Fire Chief McNamara, Essa staff, and members of the Essa Fire Department, proudly attended the official groundbreaking ceremony for the new Angus Joint Facility (Station 2), located at 14 Huron Street in Angus.
The event marked an important milestone for the community, celebrating the beginning of construction on a modern, multi-purpose facility that will support emergency services and enhance municipal operations for years to come.
Mayor Macdonald welcomed attendees and emphasized the importance of the project as a critical investment in Essa Township’s future. She noted that the new facility is essential to supporting the community’s continued growth, and will accommodate improved apparatus, increased staffing, and dedicated training spaces. These enhancements, she said, will ensure fire personnel have the tools and resources they need to serve residents effectively and safely.
MPP Brian Saunderson also spoke at the event, recognizing the importance of infrastructure projects that strengthen local communities and support first responders.
Fire Chief Burgin thanked Council for their ongoing support, noting that the existing fire hall is 60 years old. He expressed his enthusiasm for the new facility, which will better meet the department’s growing needs. Chief Burgin also acknowledged the dedication of the Essa Fire Department and shared that it is an honour to serve as their Chief.
The new facility will serve as a key hub for the Essa Fire Department and municipal services, improving response times and providing upgraded resources for staff and residents alike.
Construction on the Angus Joint Facility (Station 2) is scheduled to begin next week, with further updates to be shared as the project progresses.
