Winter Parking Updates

From November 1 to May 1, overnight parking is not permitted between 2:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. on any street or highway — even if there is no snow. Violators may be ticketed or towed.

General Parking Rules
Avoid parking:

• On sidewalks, boulevards, or crosswalks
• Within 3 m of a driveway or edge of the road
• Within 9 m of a fire hydrant or intersection
• On bridges or approaches
• On private property without permission
• In any way that blocks traffic, snow removal, or other vehicles (Regardless of Time)

🚫 Double parking or obstructing roadways can result in fines or towing.

Join us as we celebrate the memories, milestones, and community spirit at the Thornton Community Centre!

Enjoy a free public skate and take a spin around the ice with your family, friends, and Neighbours.

Before the skate, stroll through a special photo display showcasing the arena’s history from the time it was first built. At 4:45 p.m., we’ll share a few words reflecting on the Centre’s lasting impact on our community, followed by the free public skate from 5:00 to 5:50 p.m.

Come celebrate this special milestone — where the past meets the present on the ice!

🏀 Basketball Nets: Safety Reminder

Residents are asked to be prepared for winter snow removal operations by moving all basketball nets off the roadways and boulevards. Nets left on streets or sidewalks may be damaged during snow plowing, and the Township will not be responsible for any items left in these areas.

For safe play, consider setting up basketball nets on your own property or use the facilities at one of the Township’s parks.

Official Plan & Interim Control By-law Updates

A draft of the Township’s New Official Plan is currently under internal review. A second Public Information Centre will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2025. Stay updated on the project by visiting the Township’s Official Plan Review page or email officialplan@essatownship.on.ca with questions or comments.

The Council of the Township of Essa will hold a Public Meeting on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. at the Township Administration Centre, 5786 County Road 21 (three km east of Baxter) to consider:

• An Official Plan Amendment and Zoning By-law Amendment for 325 Centre Street (Con 4 Pt E Pt Lot 31; RP51R17819 Part 1 minus RP51R23310 Part 1).

• A proposed Interim Control By-law (ICBL) to temporarily freeze development in the Settlement Area of Angus, allowing only limited development based on remaining servicing capacity.

Residents and interested parties are encouraged to attend to learn more and provide input.
