Employment Opportunity - Deputy Chief Building Official
The Township of Essa is a dynamic and growing municipality, offering an excellent quality of lifestyle with a mix of rural and urban amenities, a current population of approximately 24,000, located in the heart of Simcoe County and southwest of the City of Barrie. Essa is currently seeking an individual to fill the requirements of a Full-time Deputy Chief Building Official position.
Reporting to the Chief Building Official, the Deputy is primarily responsible for reviewing and processing building plans and permit applications, conducting inspections of construction sites and completed structures to verify adherence to approved plans and regulations. The role will provide leadership and guidance to employees, represent the Chief Building Official (CBO) when required, and assume the CBO’s role and responsibilities in their absence.
Key Qualifications:
- University degree and Engineer in Training (EIT) or College program for CET an asset.
- Qualified with MMAH in the areas of House, Plumbing-House, HVAC-House, Large Buildings and On-Site Sewage Systems.
- Supervisory duties for the Building Department Staff.
- Demonstratable ability to review applications for design and construction and other engineering approvals in relation to the Township Engineering standards including residential drainage issues, grading plans review etc.
- 3 years’ experience working in a municipal setting preferred.
- A valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License in good standing.
This is a full-time position involving 35 hours per week. Salary range is $74,469.62 - $87,618.94 (2024). The Township of Essa offers benefits and a competitive compensation package.
