Employment Opportunity - Labourer/Operator/Patroller (Seasonal Contract)
Essa Township’s Public Works Department is currently accepting applications for two (2) vacant contract positions of Labourer/Operator/Patroller.
Reporting to the Roads Supervisor, these positions are primarily responsible for patrolling and maintaining the Township’s road network throughout the winter season on a 40-hour-per-week basis until April 2027. Successful candidates must be able to respond to winter weather-related call-ins within 30 minutes and be available to provide additional coverage as operational requirements, weather conditions, and unforeseen circumstances dictate. Duties include patrolling Township roads and operating winter maintenance equipment, including a sidewalk blower, front-end loader, and heavy plow/sander, as required to support safe and efficient winter road operations.
The preferred candidate will have:
- A valid Ontario Class D or higher driver’s license with Z air brake endorsement in good
- 1 to 4 years’ experience operating combination snowplow/sanders on a public highway
- Experience operating front-end loaders, trackless sidewalk plow and other related heavy
- Experience operating a sidewalk blower/plow.
- Experience with other related equipment (i.e., brush chippers, chainsaws, small hand tools, ).
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Highway Traffic Act.
- Strong ability to prioritize and
- Ability to perform labour-intensive tasks including ability to lift 50 lbs (23kg).
The hourly wage range for this position is $27.93 to $32.87 per hour. No benefits are provided with this position. The successful candidate will be required to supply their own CSA-approved safety footwear and appropriate winter clothing. This is a seasonal contract position based on 40 hours per week. The schedule will include a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, and weekends, as operational requirements dictate.
