Temporary Tents>
Before setting up a tent, make sure you comply with local regulations.
For tents over 60m², a Temporary Tent Permit is required. Learn about the necessary documents, clearances, and inspections to ensure your event is safe and within guidelines.
If your tent is under 60m², you may not need a permit, but other regulations apply. For detailed requirements and to apply for a permit, follow the links provided below.
Applicants are required to apply for a Temporary Tent Permit for all tents over 60m2.

If your tent is under 60m2 you do not need a building permit, however some regulations do apply such as 3 metre clearance. Please check with Planning Department and Fire Department.

Very important – The Temporary Structure – Tent MUST BE clear of any structures and/or vegetation.
The minimum distance from sides and top of tent to any structure and/or vegetation is 3 metres.
Please submit the following documents through our portal:
- Building Permit Application to construct or demolish, including Schedule 1
- Fully dimensional Site Plan
- Professionally Engineered drawings of the tent, including installation instructions. (Don't worry, these come with your tent rental from the tent company).
Once your permit is received and approved – Inspections will be set up with Building Inspector and the Fire Department, we will notify you of the time via email.
Tents over 225m² also require an inspection by an Engineer in addition to Building Department and Fire Department.
